Job Title: Custodian

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team at McAllen Independent School District. As a Custodian, you will play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our school facilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide a program of preventive maintenance to ensure that buildings and premises are kept neat, clean, and safe at all times.
  • Inspect the building daily, make minor building repairs as needed, and report major repairs and/or safety hazards to the immediate supervisor.
  • Assist staff with the movement of furniture, supplies, and equipment as necessary or as directed by supervisors.
  • Use safe practices in the custodial maintenance of the facility and attend safety meetings.
  • Comply with safety and hazardous laws and regulations in the performance of your job.
  • Maintain an inventory of all cleaning supplies and equipment and notify the head custodian when additional supplies are needed.
  • Attend meetings as required or directed by supervisors.
  • Attend job safety training, asbestos awareness notification, and training on the use of maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Work outside of regular assigned work schedule and campus to include extra-curricular functions and to repair/replace needed facilities that may involve night and/or weekend duty as requested.
  • Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include the cleaning of floors, whiteboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
  • Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
  • Follow procedures for opening and closing the building, locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities daily.
  • Assume responsibility during the summer for the painting of the interior and exterior of the building.
  • Stay informed of the District's energy conservation procedures and implement them at your campus.
  • Call in to the Facilities Maintenance/Operations Department daily for job assignment.
  • Perform crossing guard duties as assigned.
  • Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred.
  • Clear driving record, required.
  • Valid Texas driver's Class C license, preferred.
  • Ability to handle and use potentially harmful cleaning supplies safely and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of basic techniques of minor repairs of building and grounds maintenance.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures.
  • One (1) or more years working in custodial services, preferred.
Working Conditions:

The Custodian will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. The position requires the ability to lift and carry moderate weights, sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, pull, push, reach, and perform repetitive hand motions. The Custodian will be exposed to temperature extremes, humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration, microwaves, biological hazards, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, and work outside.

Benefits:

The Custodian will receive a competitive salary and benefits package, including paid monthly pay grade and hourly pay range of $12.00 - $17.00. The position also offers opportunities for professional growth and development.
