Position Overview

Austin PBS New Ventures, Inc. is in search of a skilled Sound Production Specialist. This role is integral to providing audio support for various productions and events. You will primarily engage in studio work for an upcoming news and public affairs series. The ideal candidate thrives in high-pressure settings and collaborates effectively within a creative media team. A background in television, music, or digital production is essential, along with proficiency in a selection of the required skills. Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate audio control boards for sound reinforcement and recording in studios and control rooms.
  • Mic talent using lavaliers and booms.
  • Set up and dismantle equipment for bands and events, including stands, microphones, and cables.
  • Prepare audio requirements for shows and events as needed.
  • Collaborate with the crew for cabling and patching tasks.
  • Establish and manage audio setups for presentations and live broadcasts using networked audio consoles and various microphone systems.
  • Edit and enhance audio in post-production using Pro Tools and/or Adobe Audition.
  • Maintain and care for all company and rental audio equipment.
  • Ensure that audio needs for productions and special events are met with professionalism.
  • Participate actively in production meetings across the station and department.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience with networked audio systems (Dante Certification is advantageous).
  • Familiarity with Calrec Summa/Brio broadcast audio consoles is preferred.
  • Experience with DiGiCo FOH/Monitor consoles is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Pro Tools mixing is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Understanding of television production concepts and methodologies.
  • Expertise in professional audio production and post-production standards.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Google Suite.
  • Awareness of public media mission and values.
  • Ability to work in environments with varying noise levels.
  • Willingness to work non-standard hours, including nights and weekends, as necessary.
  • Capability to lift and transport equipment.
  • Regular operation of audio and computer equipment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

This position is primarily hybrid, with a focus on onsite responsibilities. Compensation is competitive.
