Job Overview

As a Charge Nurse at drmichaelkim Facial Plastic Surgery, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our office-based surgery center in Portland, Oregon. Your primary responsibilities will include providing preoperative, circulating, and postoperative nursing care to patients undergoing aesthetic plastic surgery procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough preoperative patient assessments to identify potential risks and develop individualized care plans.
  • Facilitate the efficient performance of surgery by coordinating with the surgical team and ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
  • Provide postoperative care to patients recovering from general anesthesia and monitored anesthesia care, including monitoring vital signs and administering medications as needed.
  • Educate patients and their families on discharge instructions and ensure that they meet criteria for discharge.
  • Communicate with patients prior to and after their surgical procedures to address any concerns or questions they may have.
  • Ensure proper documentation and patient charting, including maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of patient care.
  • Manage staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage of cases and communicate with the front office team to optimize scheduling for both surgical and clinic procedures.
  • Document processes and procedures for quality control and safety, including identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes as needed.
  • Work with the consulting agency to ensure that all staff credentialing is complete and up to date, including performing quarterly peer reviews and submitting to the credentialing agency when complete.
  • Ensure bio-waste pickup, quality control of terminal cleaning, determine adequate supply of oxygen and compressed gas for surgery, monthly and annual fire extinguisher inspections and laundering of linens and staff scrubs.
Qualifications
  • Licensed registered nurse (RN) with current licensure in good standing from the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in preoperative and postoperative care, with a focus on aesthetic plastic surgery.
  • Current ACLS certification and positive and effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to make decisions confidently in critical situations and provide excellent customer service-oriented patient care.
  • Strong organizational skills to perform and prioritize multiple responsibilities seamlessly with exceptional attention to detail.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs and to stand for long periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds in order to assist in the transfer of patients post surgery if necessary.
Occupation Exposure
  • Category I exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
  • May encounter chemical hazards.
