Key Responsibilities:

  • Administers anesthetic agents to patients, ensuring they are desensitized for medical or surgical interventions.
  • Conducts thorough pre-anesthesia assessments to evaluate both physiological and psychological factors influencing anesthetic choices and management plans.
  • Continuously monitors patients in the operating room to maintain homeostasis and prevent any unnecessary harm.
  • Documents all anesthetic details on the anesthesia chart, creating a permanent record essential for patient care, educational purposes, and legal documentation.
  • Provides oversight and mentorship to nurse anesthesia students, as well as paramedical and medical trainees, enhancing their clinical education.
  • Responds effectively to emergency situations.
  • Oversees Human Resources functions within the department, including recruitment, hiring, training, professional development, performance evaluations, and compensation planning.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Must possess certification as a Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
  • Valid New York State Licensure as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
  • Current certification from the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
  • Required certifications such as BLS, ACLS, or other specialty credentials as dictated by departmental needs.
  • At least 6 months of experience in administering anesthesia to pediatric patients is preferred.
  • Proficiency in pediatric airway management and vascular access techniques.
  • Experience in critical and acute care settings, particularly in pediatric or neonatal environments.
  • Familiarity with monitoring techniques including EKG, arterial, central venous, and pulmonary artery pressure.
  • Expertise in respiratory management and blood gas evaluation.
