The ideal candidate will be responsible for efficiently transporting refuse carts from designated areas to collection vehicles, ensuring proper sorting of recyclable materials, and managing the disposal of refuse from commercial establishments. Additionally, the role involves collecting bulk waste from public spaces and operating machinery for loading and unloading waste materials.

Key Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES
The following duties are essential to this position, though additional tasks may be assigned:

- Transport refuse carts from designated locations to collection vehicles.
- Sort and deposit recyclable materials into appropriate compartments of the collection truck.
- Collect refuse containers from businesses and transfer contents into the truck.
- Gather bulk items and yard waste from public areas and deposit them into the collection vehicle.
- Operate equipment for loading, compressing, and unloading waste materials.
- Assist in the unloading process at disposal facilities.
- Maintain cleanliness around collection areas and ensure the truck and equipment are kept in accordance with departmental standards.
- Report any violations of waste management regulations to the supervisor.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with one to three months of relevant experience in heavy manual labor or a similar field. A combination of education and experience will also be considered.

Skills and Abilities
Candidates must possess the ability to read and comprehend instructions, follow oral directives, and apply common sense in executing tasks. The role requires physical stamina, as employees will frequently lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees will be regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions and may encounter wet or humid environments. The position may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts and elevated noise levels.
