Job Overview

We are partnering with a Family Owned Commercial Real Estate Company in Downtown Chicago to recruit a Senior Property Accountant to join their accounting department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and examine accounting records, financial statements, taxes, and other financial reports to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Develop and analyze reporting for business operations and budgets to inform strategic decisions.
  • Perform monthly close and prepare monthly financial statements, including general ledger review, monthly journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, and P&L account schedules.
  • Assist and review budgets and re-forecasts to ensure alignment with company goals.
  • Prepare and assist with monthly draws for operating and capital expenses.
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations and perform complex reconciliations and analytics.
  • Analyze and review bad debt reserves with property teams, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Analyze lease commissions, tenant allowances, and other capital items for proper classification and appropriateness.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings and interact with A/R, Property Management, Asset Managers, etc.
  • Review of A/P coding and descriptions and ensure mortgage, real estate taxes, and insurance are paid timely.
  • Perform audits, ensuring adherence to standard requirements and create new processes to improve financial efficiency.
  • Report analysis and findings to management team.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in accounting or other related fields.
  • Fundamental knowledge of GAAP.
  • Experience with current computer accounting programs and reporting tools.
  • Detail and deadline-oriented.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
