Position Overview

Role Summary

The Geospatial Information Technician I will manage the daily functions of the Geospatial Information Science Lab and engage in various lab activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the daily operations of the Geospatial Information Science laboratory.
  • Research and gather geospatial datasets for projects and produce relevant outputs.
  • Execute digital image processing and conduct GIS analyses.
  • Assist in field data collection, perform laboratory analyses, and compile findings.
  • Support students with laboratory exercises and research initiatives.
  • Install and maintain software applications.
  • Produce printed materials such as posters.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • A valid Remote Pilot certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration is mandatory. Candidates lacking this certification must be prepared to obtain it shortly after being hired.
  • Proficiency in software installation, updates, troubleshooting, and maintenance of GIS laboratory computers.
  • Self-driven with the capability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • A comprehensive understanding of geospatial information science is necessary.

Educational Background and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Geography, or a related discipline is required.
  • Familiarity with geospatial information science is advantageous.
  • Experience with geospatial information science tools and software is essential.
  • Background in computer networking, software installation, updates, and troubleshooting is preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Light office work with sedentary tasks.
  • Extended periods of sitting at a workstation and utilizing a computer.
  • Capability to lift items weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to drive as needed.
  • Willingness to perform fieldwork as required.
