FLSA STATUS: Nonexempt, fulltime
WAGE RANGE: $24.13 per hour
Position Summary:
The Driver is responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation services for Cowlitz tribal members to various appointments. This role requires adherence to confidentiality standards and compliance with HIPAA regulations while embodying the mission and values of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe and the HHS department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist passengers during boarding and disembarking from the vehicle.
- Adjust vehicle settings for passenger comfort, including heating and ventilation.
- Operate vehicles along designated routes and schedules, ensuring timely arrivals.
- Prioritize passenger safety by adhering to all applicable laws and regulations.
- Utilize communication and navigation equipment effectively while operating the vehicle.
- Deliver medications to patients unable to visit the clinic.
- Maintain accurate trip logs and perform daily vehicle inspections.
- Conduct basic vehicle maintenance and ensure cleanliness of the vehicle.
- Respond to emergencies, including traffic incidents and medical situations.
- Provide exceptional customer service to all clients and stakeholders.
- Engage in professional development through workshops and training.
- Train new drivers as necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safety protocols.
- Contribute to team efforts and complete related tasks as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of traffic safety laws and regulations.
- Familiarity with the Cowlitz Indian Reservation and its roadways.
- Proficiency in operating motor vehicles safely.
- Ability to navigate various weather conditions while driving.
- Competence in using basic computer software and communication devices.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to follow instructions and remain composed in challenging situations.
- Capacity to meet deadlines and make sound decisions independently.
- Ability to foster positive relationships with diverse individuals.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Five years of driving experience required.
- Must obtain and maintain necessary certifications within three months of hire.
- Valid Class C driver's license with Passenger Vehicle Endorsement is mandatory.
- Successful completion of a background screening is required.
Physical Demands:
This position requires prolonged periods of sitting, as well as the ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds. The employee may also need to engage in activities such as walking, bending, and reaching.
Work Environment:
Work is conducted in both indoor and outdoor settings, including vehicle operation. Employees may encounter various environmental factors and are required to use protective equipment as necessary.
