Position Overview: The Senior Nutritionist is tasked with the formulation and execution of a comprehensive nutritional care strategy tailored for patients undergoing treatment for cancer. This role necessitates a thorough evaluation of each patient's dietary requirements in conjunction with their overall health plans.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Duties:
a. Deliver personalized nutrition therapy and counseling for oncology patients and their families. Facilitate both individual and group sessions aimed at enhancing nutritional adherence and improving treatment outcomes.
b. Foster strong relationships with patients, families, and healthcare professionals, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
c. Conduct thorough interviews and review medical histories to assess various factors influencing nutritional health, including social and financial aspects.
d. Create individualized nutrition care plans that consider clinical, biochemical, and socioeconomic factors, determining the most suitable feeding methods.
e. Document and relay nutrition care plans and patient progress accurately through established communication channels.
f. Assist in developing educational resources for patients and their families as needed.
g. Serve as a nutrition expert and educator for healthcare providers and the community.
h. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams during patient rounds to address nutritional concerns impacting overall care.
i. Stay informed on current research relevant to nutritional care and apply findings appropriately.
j. Engage in quality management initiatives, including data collection and evaluation for reporting purposes.
2. Administrative Duties:
a. Contribute to the strategic planning of outpatient oncology nutrition services.
b. Represent the Nutrition Department on various committees and initiatives.
c. Assist in the formulation of policies and procedures related to nutritional care for oncology patients.
d. Gather and analyze productivity metrics related to patient care and referrals.
e. Evaluate new nutritional products and provide insights to the healthcare team.
f. Ensure accurate billing processes are followed.
g. Promote nutrition consultation services to external institutions and develop educational outreach programs.
3. Educational Responsibilities:
a. Mentor dietetic interns and provide training on current nutritional practices.
b. Develop and deliver presentations on oncology nutrition to various audiences.
c. Act as a representative for the institution in educational settings.
d. Foster teamwork and collaboration among staff to enhance patient care.
e. Educate healthcare professionals on the principles of medical nutrition therapy.
f. Create and lead educational sessions for hospital staff and the community.
g. Engage in professional development activities, including publishing research and attending conferences.
Qualifications:
Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a focus on science or education, along with registration as a Dietitian and maintenance of continuing education credits. A minimum of three years of experience in clinical and oncological nutrition is preferred.
