Job Summary:

The Louisiana Department of State Civil Service is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Correctional Officer to join our team. As a Correctional Officer, you will be responsible for the custody and security of inmates in a state prison facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with inmates to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Supervise housekeeping of inmate housing areas and escort prisoners as needed.
  • Investigate suspicious activities and perform in-depth security searches/shakedowns of inmate's person, property, living quarters, and work locations.
  • Follow direction given by upper-level officers, departmental policies, and regulations.
  • Will receive firearms training.

  • Eligible for incentive pay for having an Associate Degree or a Baccalaureate Degree in certain fields.

Requirements:

  • One year of continuous employment in any field of work will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.
  • Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of application.
  • Applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Working Conditions:

This is a 24-hour facility, and applicants may be required to work shift work.
