Position Overview

The Sow Production Supervisor plays a crucial role in this success, and we are in search of a qualified individual to assume this vital position. The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in swine production, alongside at least 3 years of leadership experience within a swine production setting. A deep understanding of applied sow production, animal care, and established operational protocols is critical; as are robust organizational, problem-solving, and communication abilities, with an emphasis on ongoing improvement and team growth.

The Hord family has a rich history in agriculture, spanning five generations and over a century of farming expertise. Based in North Central Ohio, with additional locations in Pennsylvania and Minnesota, Hord Farms operates as a pig, cow, and grain farm, committed to raising our livestock with compassion while employing modern and sustainable farming techniques.

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Embody and promote the core values, vision, and mission of Hord Farms; serve as a role model to motivate direct reports and their teams, ensuring alignment with our commitment to excellence.
  • Guide and mentor direct reports to align their goals with the broader organizational objectives. Establish clear expectations, nurture a shared vision, and foster an environment conducive to team success.
  • Strategically outline and set production targets for direct reports, ensuring compliance with established operational procedures through regular farm assessments. Your leadership will help uphold our production standards and provide necessary guidance for effective farm and team management.
  • Provide ongoing feedback—both formal and informal—to direct reports, ensuring their performance meets the organizational benchmarks of Hord Farms.
  • Encourage the utilization of system tools to maintain precise production records and cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Lead initiatives to introduce innovative solutions and improvement strategies that enhance production results and sustainability practices.
  • Ensure adherence to all company and farm biosecurity and safety protocols, maintaining a secure working environment for all personnel.
  • Foster team engagement and morale, cultivating a motivated and long-term workforce. Ensure optimal staffing levels across sow units to effectively meet production needs.
  • This is a full-time position, requiring 45-50 hours per week with minimal travel to satellite locations as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma is required; a Bachelor's degree or higher in Animal Science or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Strong collaborative approach and relationship-building capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple key initiatives simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail, self-motivation, and organizational skills to achieve high-quality outcomes.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated reliability and a commitment to excellence.
  • No contact with pigs outside the Hord herd.
