Job Overview:
Citizenship/Clearance requirement: Candidate must be a U.S. citizen, capable of obtaining and maintaining a DoD Secret security clearance and passing a background check and drug screening.

The Chemical Analysis Specialist will provide essential technical support in delivering services and development initiatives aligned with the mission of DEVCOM CBC, particularly within the Chemical Analysis and Physical Properties Branch.

This role involves utilizing a variety of spectroscopic techniques (NMR, IR, and Raman spectroscopy) to assess toxic industrial chemicals (TICs), toxic industrial materials (TIMs), chemical warfare agents (CWAs), and other hazardous substances.

Additional separation techniques such as GC-MS and LC-MS may also be employed to perform analyses aimed at characterizing synthesis pathways and determining physical and physicochemical properties to bolster R&D efforts.

The Chemical Analysis Specialist will be required to qualify for/enroll in the U.S.

Army Chemical Personnel Reliability Program (PRP) and will engage in responsibilities related to chemical surety material (CSM) and other specified chemical agents.


Key Responsibilities:
Implement analytical methodologies and studies utilizing diverse technologies.
Evaluate energetics and other materials for stability, chemical, and physical properties.
Develop innovative analytical methods or adapt existing methodologies for conducting studies.
Assist in drafting specifications and SOPs relevant to military standards.
Prepare active and passive vapor samplers, including conditioning, packaging, and operation.

Conduct targeted and non-targeted data analysis for projects using various analytical instruments for detection and quantification of individual compound chemicals to differential analysis of chemical groups.

Collaborate with Government principal investigator (PI) on project specifications and execute project tasks with minimal supervision.
Compile documentation and test reports.

Qualifications:
Candidate must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Bachelor's (required) or Master's Degree in Analytical Chemistry or Environmental Chemistry is preferred.
A minimum of one year's experience in operating analytical laboratory equipment is required, with two years preferred.

Experience with Profile Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)-MOUSE (MObile Universal Surface Explorer) Spectrometer, including 1D relaxometry, depth profiling, and diffusion measurements.

Proficiency in chromatographic method development and validation.
Experience with commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) thermal desorption systems.
Strong analytical and interpersonal relationship skills.
Demonstrated willingness to work with hazardous chemical compounds.

Possesses domain knowledge and understanding of analytical concepts, principles, and theories related to organic and inorganic chemical analyses and experiments, with the ability to resolve complex analytical challenges encountered during analyses of intricate media and target chemicals/compounds.

Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of utilizing other analytical instruments such as NMR, IR, and/or Raman spectroscopy for chemical identification and characterization.

Able to effectively support methods development and method validation for novel analytical techniques.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Exhibits strong team player attributes.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
