Overview

As a Transit Security Officer, you will play a vital role in safeguarding the travel experience for our community. This position involves overseeing transit operations, addressing security issues, and assisting passengers to uphold the safety and order of our transportation systems. Your commitment to vigilance and safety will positively impact the daily journeys of countless commuters.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform routine patrols of transit locations, including platforms, buses, trains, and stations to ensure passenger and staff safety.
- Monitor surveillance systems and respond to alerts, incidents, or suspicious behavior.
- Enforce transit policies and regulations, ensuring compliance with fare and conduct standards.
- Assist passengers by providing directions, information about services, and support during emergencies.
- Respond swiftly to emergencies, coordinating with law enforcement and emergency responders as needed.
- Document incidents, accidents, and security breaches with detailed reports during shifts.
- Collaborate with local law enforcement to address criminal activities within the transit system.
- Aid in the evacuation of vehicles and stations during emergencies or as directed by protocols.
- Inspect transit facilities for safety hazards or security threats, reporting findings to the relevant department.
- Manage crowd control and passenger flow during peak periods or special events to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Engage in security training and awareness programs to stay current with security practices.
- Work collaboratively with fellow security personnel to maintain a secure transit environment.
- Serve as a visible deterrent to crime and violations by maintaining a strong security presence.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum age of 18 years
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
- Previous experience in security or law enforcement preferred
- Certification in CPR and First Aid
- Ability to obtain a security guard license as required by local regulations
- Physical fitness to walk, stand, and occasionally run during patrols
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to remain composed and take appropriate action in high-pressure situations
- Basic computer skills for report writing and data entry
- Knowledge of public safety and security protocols
- Willingness to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Familiarity with communication devices
- Professional interaction with the public and ability to de-escalate tense situations
- Understanding of local laws and regulations
