Job Summary:

As a Pharmacy Technician at McLaren USA, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient preparation and dispensing of medications to our patients. Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, you will be responsible for weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients to prepare medications, as well as replenishing medications in emergency crash carts and accurately filling bottles, capsules, and other package forms with measured amounts of medication according to prescription.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients to prepare medications, emulsions, liquids, powders, and ointments using equipment such as graduates, balances, mortars, pestles, and funnels.
  • Replenish medications in emergency crash carts, EMT boxes, or floor stock accurately.
  • Fills bottles, capsules, or other package forms with measured amounts of medication according to prescription.
  • Prepackages bulk medications in unit dose packages accurately within specified time periods.
  • Makes rounds delivering prescriptions to nursing stations.
  • Files physician's orders.
  • Enters data into pharmacy computer system.
  • Operates automated dispensing technology (Omnicell) to facilitate inventory management and medication storage.
  • Charges patient and/or patient care area for medications and supplies as outlined by standard departmental procedures.
  • Organizes outdated or overstocked medications to ship back to manufacturers for credit.
  • Dispenses additives for IV and irrigating solutions, mixes IV additive solutions and chemotherapy as required using aseptic technique with laminar flow hood.
  • Prepares intravenous ad mixtures or other sterile products (including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition) accurately and according to established standards.
  • Cleans laminar flow hood and working area.
  • Prepares reports on IV activity as requested on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

Requirements:

Possess high school diploma
Possess 6 months of job-related experience or completion of a pharmacy technician-training program or currently enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy
Trained and educated in age-specific categories being served: neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric
Ability to operate office-related equipment (computer terminal)
Licensed to practice as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Michigan
