Position Overview:
Under the supervision of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), the Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant will engage in providing direct instructional support to students eligible for speech and language services as outlined by the MN Special Education Speech Criteria. This role involves active collaboration with the educational team, including the supervising SLP, school personnel, and the Special Education team, to enhance student communication outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver both direct and indirect speech/language therapy services in alignment with each student's Individualized Educational Plan (IEP).
- Collaborate with the SLP to modify classroom environments, tools, and resources to foster improved communication skills among students.
- Regularly meet with the supervising SLP to synchronize service delivery, maintain accurate documentation, and update student records.
- Create and implement lesson plans, prepare instructional materials, and develop visual aids for speech services.
- Document student progress through reports, annual IEP updates, and provide recommendations for targeted skills in collaboration with the SLP.
- Assist in transitioning skills into general education settings through indirect services.
- Conduct articulation screenings and manage scheduling for student sessions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- An Associate's degree from an accredited speech-language pathology assistant program or a Bachelor's degree in communication sciences or disorders with relevant coursework and at least 100 hours of supervised fieldwork experience.
- Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, particularly in high-pressure situations.
- Proficient in creating written correspondence and other communication materials.
- Strong technological and computer skills.
- Willingness to work closely with students receiving SLP services and to accept constructive feedback from supervisors while fostering positive relationships.
- Ability to travel between multiple school sites as required and to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.
- Consistent attendance and the ability to fulfill job responsibilities effectively.
