Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Airport HVAC Technician II to join our team at Salt Lake City. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing journey-level skills on air conditioning and heating equipment, calibrating, installing, troubleshooting, and repairing pneumatic and electronic controls.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled work in electrical maintenance and installation involving line voltage up to 480V, 3-phase, plumbing, welding, and related procedures.
  • Work closely with facility instrumentation and electrical personnel to ensure seamless operation of our HVAC systems.
  • Install, monitor, repair, and service chillers, boilers, and air-conditioners, ranging from 3 to 300 tons cooling capacity.
  • Install, service, and repair environmental control systems in all facility or plant buildings, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout.
  • Mount compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools and following blueprints or engineering specifications.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and install duct work using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.
  • Install expansion and discharge valves in circuits, connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating/ventilation fans to control panels, and connect control panels to power source.
  • Test systems and add refrigerant to build up prescribed operating pressure, test joints and connections for gas leaks, and keep a log of all refrigerant use and reclamation.
  • Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent completion of a recognized apprenticeship program in the HVAC area, or three years of increasingly responsible HVAC experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of codes, standards, practices, materials, and methods used in HVAC maintenance.
  • Possession of EPA Type II Certification is required.
  • Possession of valid state driver's license or Utah driving privilege card. A commercial, Class B driver's license may be required.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and hazards and application of accident prevention measures associated with the operation of maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, which may include days, afternoons, graveyards, weekends, and holidays.
  • Subject to call-out and ability to work standby, as scheduled.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Aviation environment or industrial facility experience preferred.
  • Computer background preferred.
Working Conditions
  • Moderately heavy physical activity. Required push, pull, or lift heavy weights up to 100 pounds from 10%-15% of the work time.
  • Difficult working positions; may have to stand, walk, or sit in uncomfortable positions for extended periods and squat or crawl into small spaces under and near operation equipment to check and complete minor repairs.
  • May perform work in ceilings, on tops of ladders, bucket lifts, scissor lifts, and roof in heights exceeding 100 feet.
  • High exposure to disagreeable elements such as dust, fumes, noise, dampness, cold heat, chemicals, or grease. Exposed to outside weather conditions year-round and moderate hazards much of the time.
