About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join our team at Amazon Web Services (AWS). As a key member of our global engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing electrical systems for our data centers and cloud infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in site selection reviews to ensure optimal locations for our data centers.
  • Design and develop electrical systems for data centers, including substation design and collaboration with other disciplines.
  • Work with local utilities to understand and define site utility requirements.
  • Review and approve equipment submittals to ensure compliance with quality and budget requirements.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to and during construction phases.
  • Work with commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
  • Travel to sites for site review and work with onsite field engineers, as well as provide engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits, and startup as needed.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years of related electrical experience, including a minimum of 2+ years of substation design experience.
  • Cumulative 3+ years of experience with industrial or commercial electrical design experience.
  • 2+ years of experience developing design documentation (plans, specifications, etc.) for construction and/or permitting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience directly related to substation design supporting data center or mission-critical facilities.
  • Professional Engineering License and knowledge of building codes and regulations, including Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.
  • Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
  • Experience with fast-track design/build projects, multiple significant upgrade projects, large-scale technical operations, or large-scale compute farms.
