The Senior Officer of Technology Transfer at Auburn University plays a pivotal role in the Office of the Senior Vice President of Research and Economic Development. Key ResponsibilitiesThis role involves:
- Engaging with faculty to develop strategic plans for technology advancement and protection, while also formulating patent strategies in collaboration with external legal counsel.
- Identifying and evaluating new opportunities for technology commercialization that emerge from Auburn, including assessing market potential, identifying new applications, and analyzing competing technologies.
- Conducting thorough patent searches and ensuring freedom to operate for innovative technologies.
- Creating comprehensive marketing and licensing strategies for technologies within the AU portfolio, and preparing non-confidential technology descriptions to attract potential licensing partners.
- Negotiating licensing agreements, including equity terms when applicable, and leading business development initiatives related to new inventions.
- Managing ongoing relationships with licensees, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, and monitoring their progress in commercializing licensed technologies.
- Providing guidance to research faculty on industry and governmental research needs, as well as trends in various research fields.
- Educating stakeholders about the commercialization process and advising university inventors and potential industry partners on intellectual property policies.
Minimum qualifications include:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Business, Engineering, Bio-Engineering, or Chemical Engineering with 7 years of relevant experience.
- A Master's Degree in the same fields with 5 years of relevant experience.
- A PhD in the same fields with 3 years of relevant experience.
Desired qualifications encompass experience in higher education and collaboration with diverse industry and legal professionals, as well as certifications such as Certified Licensing Specialist and Registered Technology Transfer Professional.
