Position Overview:

The Operating Room Technician plays a crucial role in the surgical team by preparing and managing surgical instruments and equipment for various procedures. This position is essential in ensuring patient safety and quality care, adhering to the principles of surgical asepsis. The technician must be adaptable and capable of responding to the dynamic environment of the operating room, while also serving as a mentor for new surgical technologists during their orientation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and organize surgical instruments and equipment for a variety of surgical procedures.
  • Maintain a sterile environment and uphold safety standards throughout the surgical process.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon during operations, demonstrating flexibility and quick thinking.
  • Provide guidance and support to new surgical technologists, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
  • Scrub in on diverse surgical procedures, adapting to changes in patient conditions as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an accredited surgical technology program recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or equivalent military training as a surgical corpsman or medic, or a minimum of three years of demonstrated experience in a surgical setting.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, with a commitment to maintaining certification.
  • Successful completion of orientation and competency assessments within the operating room department.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, occasionally wearing a 10 lb. x-ray apron, and capable of lifting and moving equipment as required.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage stress and adapt to changing conditions, demonstrating effective time management and self-direction.
