The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County is seeking applications for the role of Academic Support Specialist within the Comin Up Gang Intervention Program.
As an Academic Support Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to deliver educational guidance and assistance to students across various subjects. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting both individual and group tutoring sessions.
- Providing homework assistance to enhance academic performance and GPA.
- Delivering instruction and tutoring for state standardized assessments to ensure students meet proficiency benchmarks.
- Offering SAT/ACT preparatory tutoring to help youth achieve college entrance scores.
You will also be responsible for ensuring administrative compliance, maintaining safety at the assigned site, and serving as a positive role model. Services will be delivered on-site during program hours, with potential for virtual support as needed. Adherence to all safety protocols is mandatory.
The Comin Up Gang Intervention Program is dedicated to serving gang-involved youth aged 12-18 in the Fort Worth area. This program provides essential services and activities aimed at reducing gang violence and fostering positive community change.
QualificationsEducation and Experience:
- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution is required.
- A minimum of 6 months of experience working with youth, whether in a professional or volunteer capacity.
Essential Skills:
- Availability to work evening and night shifts (between 7:00 PM and 11:00 PM, two nights per week).
- Ability to assess and address the needs of students effectively.
- Capacity to serve as a positive role model.
- Skill in building rapport and establishing relationships with youth.
- Proficiency in facilitating, teaching, or instructing.
- Knowledge of GED requirements and fundamentals of reading and mathematics.
- Familiarity with tutoring or teaching methodologies.
- Understanding of technology and software, including tablets, social media, cloud-based tools, and virtual meeting platforms.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid is required.
- Ability to pass all required background checks and drug screenings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching certification.
- Bilingual capabilities.
- Experience or knowledge of the Boys & Girls Clubs Movement (national or local).
Compensation will be based on qualifications:
- $15.00 per hour without teaching certification.
- $19.40 per hour with teaching certification.
