Role Summary: The Chapter/Membership Organizer will play a pivotal role in sustaining and expanding the organization's chapters across various counties. This position involves engaging community members in active campaigns, recruiting new members, and training individuals to take on leadership roles. The organizer will build a robust network of members, volunteers, and grassroots leaders who resonate with the mission of Progressive Maryland and actively participate in statewide initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Expand the membership base in targeted counties.
  • Recruit, mentor, and empower members to assume leadership roles within local chapters.
  • Facilitate the creation and growth of local chapters by providing essential resources and support.
  • Train members in regions lacking local organizers to engage in canvassing and phone banking efforts.
  • Mobilize community members to participate in various actions, including events and legislative testimonies.
  • Utilize outreach methods to identify and recruit potential members.
  • Encourage individuals to become dues-paying members of the organization.
  • Achieve outreach and membership goals, maintaining accurate records of progress.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Organizing to develop and implement grassroots strategies.
  • Represent Progressive Maryland at community gatherings and meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in social justice advocacy or electoral campaigns.
  • Hands-on experience in grassroots organizing, including canvassing and phone banking.
  • Basic computer skills and a willingness to learn new digital tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in training and supervising volunteers.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to adapt to complex situations.
  • A deep understanding of community challenges and a commitment to addressing them.
  • Willingness to reside in or relocate to Maryland or DC.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with local political systems.
  • Experience with campaign management platforms.

Travel Requirements: Reliable access to a vehicle and a valid driver's license is necessary, along with a willingness to travel throughout the region as needed.
