As a Special Education Teacher at Roane County Schools, you will work under the direction of the school principal to provide and plan for specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings.
Key Responsibilities:- Collaboration and Communication: Work effectively with students with disabilities, teachers, and parents/guardians to ensure a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
- Instructional Support: Provide direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities and general education teachers to promote academic success.
- Individualized Education Programs (IEPs): Develop and implement annual IEPs for students, including present levels of educational performance, special education and transition needs, instructional goals, and required special education and related services.
- Service Coordination: Coordinate the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP to ensure timely and effective implementation.
- Professional Development: Demonstrate knowledge of specialized teaching strategies for students with IEPs and participate in ongoing professional development to enhance instructional skills.
- Assessment and Data Analysis: Collect and analyze instructional data on student performance to inform instructional decisions and improve student outcomes.
- Behavioral Support: Utilize positive reinforcement and behavior strategies to instruct students in appropriate behaviors and promote a safe learning environment.
- Supervision and Support: Provide direction and supervision for paraeducators assigned to the classroom to ensure effective support for students.
- Record Keeping and Confidentiality: Maintain thorough, accurate, and compliant special education files and ensure student confidentiality.
- Teamwork and Attendance: Work cooperatively as a member of the educational team and demonstrate prompt and regular attendance and responsible use of leave.
- Professional Ethics: Adhere to professional ethics in all work-related activities and comply with all school, district, state, and federal guidelines and Roane County Board of Education policies.
- Valid TN Teachers License: Possess a valid Tennessee teaching license with the appropriate endorsement code.
- Physical Demands: The position requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, and possible physical interventions to maintain a safe learning environment. The position may also require assisting with lifting, moving, or positioning students and/or changing diapers as needed.
- Criminal Background Check and Drug Screening: Pass a satisfactory background check and drug screening.
