Nuclear Medicine Technologist Job Description

Nurse Hustle is seeking a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team for a travel job in Urbana, Illinois.

Job Summary

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist will perform diagnostic studies and assist with therapeutic administrations utilizing radiopharmaceuticals and imaging equipment in accordance with Carle policies and procedures and IEMA Department of Nuclear Safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic studies and radiopharmaceutical therapeutic administration by utilizing Nuc Med and/or PED/CT equipment by acquiring and processing patient exams in accordance with accrediting bodies and/or manufacturer guidelines and as outlined in department protocols.
  • Review cases with the radiologist when appropriate.
  • Review labs and patient history to perform correct exam.
  • Administer IV radiopharmaceuticals by means of existing IV line or by performing veni puncture and placing IV line.
  • Screen the patient for possibility of pregnancy and perform pregnancy testing if applicable.
  • Responsible to review radiology orders for completeness and accuracy.
  • Review patient history and supporting clinical data for medical necessity.
  • Take steps to acquire additional information if needed from the patient, ordering provider and/or Radiologist.
  • Demonstrate acceptable imaging quality standards by critiquing positioning, technical factors and alignment.
  • Review patient data for accuracy, quality and completeness.
  • Transfer and verify image data in PACS and provide necessary medical history and information for Radiologist interpretation.
  • Utilize the web servers and email systems to send exams for preliminary readings after hours.
  • Responsible for maintaining imaging equipment and workplace environment including maintaining supply inventories and orderliness of work area.
  • Recognize malfunctions and service needs and report service needs in a timely manner.
  • Ensure patient, visitor and environmental safety.
  • Report safety events immediately including those that are a near miss.
  • Assist in instruction of students and new staff as necessary.
  • May perform duties of Nuc Med Lead or Imaging Coordinator in his/her absence.
  • Meet productivity levels as established by department benchmarking.
  • Assist other areas during downtimes so to maintain productivity.
  • May be required to perform duties of other modalities within the department to which licensers are held by the technologist/sonographer.
  • Comply with other job descriptions of cross-trained modalities also performed within the department.
Requirements
  • Diploma in related field
  • Certificate in Radiologic Technology
  • BLS (American Heart Assoc.)
  • IEMA
  • Nuclear Medicine Tech Certification (NMTCB)
  • ARRT (N)
