Job Description Summary

The Process Safety Engineer reports directly to the Sandy Sr. EHS Manager. This position is responsible for leading, developing, interpreting, and administering the Environmental, Health and Safety high hazard and process safety management programs within the Sandy facility.

The role works collaboratively with other functions in the plant to ensure the site maintains compliance with all federal state, local regulations, and company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify process hazards, evaluate risks, and develop effective solutions to mitigate risk.
  • Develop comprehensive High Hazard/Process Safety Management (HH/PSM) programs, including Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) execution and follow-up.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor the progress of the BD HH/PSM program.
  • Lead PHA on existing and new processes.
  • Evaluate new processes and modify existing processes and facilities to meet new requirements.
  • Work with maintenance and other engineering functions to develop, coordinate, and evaluate maintenance programs for highly technical equipment.
  • Provide oversight for the site Management of Change (MOC) Processes.
  • Manage the site PHA schedule and recommendation implementation plan.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for incidents and near misses.
  • Provide oversight of and lead Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) for site projects.
  • Provide mentoring and create and deliver training for site personnel.
  • Participate on teams responsible for implementing new procedures and processes related to EHS and HH/PSM.
  • Interact with regulatory authorities for permits, inspections, and requests for information.
  • Partner with Facilities to engage and interact with insurance companies as a site representative.
  • Maintain technical expertise in HH/PSM and other EHS Regulations.
  • Anticipate and evaluate the impact of changing regulatory requirements on BD operations.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, Process Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years leading EHS processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiar with fourteen elements of Process Safety Management (PSM) and the EPA's Risk Management Plan (RMP) rule.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years in a PSM or RMP regulated environment.
  • Functional Safety Certifications or Six Sigma Green or Black Belt.
  • Knowledge and experience in ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001 compliance.
  • Experience in Fire Loss and Prevention activities.
