Job Summary

Baltimore City Community College invites qualified candidates to apply for a part-time faculty position to teach American Sign Language courses. As an adjunct instructor, you will play a crucial role in shaping the educational experience of our students.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses, which may include day, night, or weekend courses, to students with varying skill levels and learning styles.
  • Establish and promote an effective learning environment that maximizes student learning and engagement.
  • Submit required college reports and forms in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with institutional guidelines.
  • Utilize a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines, to ensure a structured and comprehensive learning experience.
  • Meet with and advise students either before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods, to provide individualized support and guidance.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required, to stay informed about College policies and procedures.
  • Maintain levels of professional knowledge and expertise, staying current with best practices in American Sign Language education.
  • Fulfill responsibilities for other reasonable, related duties as assigned, to support the College's mission and goals.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree and a minimum 2 years of ASL full-time professional experience, demonstrating expertise in American Sign Language and pedagogy.
  • Strong foundation of ASL and ASL pedagogy, with the ability to teach students with varying skill levels and learning styles.
  • Extensive knowledge of Deaf culture, with a deep understanding of the complexities and nuances of the Deaf community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ASLTA certification (American Sign Language Teachers Association) or ASLPI score of 4.0 or higher (American Sign Language Proficiency Interview), demonstrating exceptional proficiency in American Sign Language.
  • 3 years ASL teaching experience, with a proven track record of success in the classroom.
