Position Overview:
The Practical Nurse will play a crucial role in supporting clinic operations, ensuring that patients receive safe and effective care throughout their treatment journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review patient medical histories to confirm that all necessary information is available prior to appointments.
- Generate and distribute daily clinical reports to relevant staff members.
- Measure and document patient vital signs, weight, height, and pain levels in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Facilitate the patient rooming process, escorting patients to examination rooms.
- Collect and record patient health history, allergies, and current medications in the EMR.
- Complete required screening questionnaires and document findings in the EMR.
- Assist providers during procedures and exams, serving as a chaperone when necessary.
- Ensure exam and treatment rooms are stocked with essential supplies.
- Prepare and maintain equipment and supplies for patient treatments.
- Coordinate with front office staff regarding scheduling of appointments for labs, treatments, and injections.
- Obtain pre-authorizations for prescribed medications.
- Manage prescription refill requests in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Administer IV therapy access devices under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) after validation of competency.
- Utilize the medication storage cabinet to manage prescribed doses accurately.
- Conduct required daily, weekly, and monthly inventory tasks for the medication cabinet.
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by the provider, adhering to nursing policies and standards.
- Monitor patient responses to anticoagulant therapy and collaborate with providers on management.
- Assist patients with supplemental paperwork for insurance and disability claims.
- Perform telephone triage under the guidance of an RN or provider.
- Support patient education and informed consent processes as per established policies.
- Schedule psychological services and referrals to community support agencies as directed.
- Accurately enter orders for labs and tests into the EMR based on provider instructions.
- Identify and resolve issues that affect patient flow in the clinic.
- Monitor and report changes in patient conditions to the RN or provider, assisting with evaluations as needed.
- Document services rendered and medications administered in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ensure accurate charge entry for services provided.
- Complete assigned evaluations within designated timeframes.
- Communicate clinic needs and concerns to management.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives and participate in committees as requested.
- Attend mandatory training sessions and complete required continuing education on time.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Current state LPN License.
- Preferred experience in an outpatient oncology setting.
- Minimum of one year of LPN experience, with possible waivers upon approval.
- Completion of ONS Oncology Basics chemotherapy course within six months of hire, with recertification every two years.
- Current BLS provider certification.
- Willingness to travel to various clinic locations as needed.
