POSITION SUMMARY

As the Insider Threat Risk Manager, reporting directly to the Head of Insider Threat Risk Management, you will be pivotal in enhancing Northern Trust's capabilities to deter, prevent, detect, and address insider threat activities. This role involves conducting in-depth technical analyses of security event data and investigating breaches of company policy using a comprehensive array of security operations tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate detection protocols aimed at identifying or mitigating insider threat activities utilizing security tools such as Security Information & Event Management (SIEM), User Entity & Behavior Analytics (UEBA), Data Loss Prevention (DLP), and cloud security technologies.
  • Oversee investigations into breaches of Northern Trust's Acceptable Use Policy, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and relevant regulatory standards.
  • Employ technical expertise to perform incident response and investigations, including digital forensics, Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT), and data analysis.
  • Lead program initiatives encompassing the creation of program documentation, tabletop exercises, threat intelligence briefs, assessments of critical assets, and standard operating procedures.
  • Develop and present insightful metrics, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to evaluate risks, trends, and the effectiveness of controls.
  • Conduct risk assessments and controls validation testing to pinpoint opportunities for enhancing the control environment.
  • Facilitate formal interviews related to sensitive investigations.
  • Establish and nurture strong relationships with program stakeholders and business representatives.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proven experience in monitoring, tuning, and/or crafting detection rules in tools such as SIEM, UEBA, DLP, and cloud security technologies.
  • Experience in digital forensics, incident response, OSINT, data analysis, and/or threat hunting.
  • Familiarity with scripting/query languages such as KQL, PowerShell, and/or Python.
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments and/or controls validation testing.
  • Project or program management experience.
  • Expertise in formal investigative interviewing and/or report writing.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST) and data privacy principles.
  • Strong grasp of computer operating systems, networking protocols, and IT infrastructure/cloud technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively both independently and within a team, including multi-national teams.

Experience:

Any combination of equivalent education, experience, or training that meets the qualifications for this position.

A minimum of 5-8 years of professional experience in conducting comprehensive security operations analysis of insider or external cyber threat activities, data loss, or related investigations.

Possession of technical or investigative certifications such as EnCE, GCFE, CISSP, GCIH, CEH, CFE, PMP, or CRISC is advantageous.
