Job Summary:

The Sanitation Equipment Operator will be responsible for operating a municipal solid waste collection vehicle, serving as an equipment operator, and performing related tasks as required. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing essential services to our community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collecting municipal solid waste and ensuring proper completion of assigned work and adequate safety precautions
  • Operating container lift mechanism to dump collection container and packer blade mechanism to compress refuse
  • Directing traffic and guiding truck operation in congested areas
  • Disseminating collection information to the general public and cleaning and washing refuse collection equipment
  • Assembling and cleaning refuse and recycling containers and assisting in the delivery of trucks to or the Dial-A-Truck Program
  • Supervising sanitation worker when assigned to collection route/special pickup and acting as Equipment Operator II when given assignment to drive collection route
  • Performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections of motorized collection equipment and operating rear loading and automated refuse collection vehicle when assigned
Requirements:
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the completion of high school with at least two (2) years experience in the field of municipal solid waste collection
  • Possession of an appropriate commercial driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina
  • General knowledge of the operation and servicing of motorized equipment and ability to perform continuous heavy manual work at a steady pace in adverse weather conditions
