Job Summary
The nurse practitioner, in collaboration with physicians, addresses mental health conditions and is responsible for delivering psychiatric healthcare to patients. This role involves working with the healthcare team to optimize care delivery based on individual patient needs, utilizing social and behavioral health protocols as guidance.
Additionally, the nurse practitioner will educate nursing staff and other healthcare team members as necessary.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Prescribing medications for both acute and chronic mental health conditions, as well as therapies and rehabilitation treatments, in accordance with the Georgia Nurse Practice Act.
- Providing counseling and education to patients and families regarding health behaviors, self-care skills, and treatment options, while ensuring effective communication with the inter-professional team about comprehensive care plans.
- Engaging with community referral sources to gather pertinent patient information and facilitating communication with other care providers regarding discharge needs.
- Participating in quality assurance initiatives and performance improvement projects as required.
- Assisting in the training and mentoring of staff to enhance the quality of care.
- Collaborating with nursing leadership to develop and deliver ongoing educational programs.
- Performing additional related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements:
Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, along with two years of professional nursing experience. Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification is also required.
Preferred Qualifications
Licensure:
Active Advanced Practice Registered Nursing licensure in Georgia, along with current certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner approved by the Georgia Nursing Board. Eligibility for prescriptive authority in Georgia is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to formulate diagnoses based on examinations and test results, identify deviations from norms, and intervene appropriately. Proficiency in nursing assessments, care plan development, and implementation is essential. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are required, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant software.

Minimum $95,200.00/Annually - $121,400/Annually
Salary will be commensurate with the qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range.
Augusta University provides a comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees, including health and dental insurance, retirement plans, vacation time, sick leave, and paid holidays.
Additionally, employees who have been with the university for over six months may be eligible for the Tuition Assistance Program.
Conditions of Employment

The primary work location will be within the Augusta University Medical Center or affiliated clinics, adhering to relevant guidelines.
