Job Description
As a Cytotechnologist, you will stain, mount, and microscopically examine cell samples to detect potential health issues, working under general supervision and adhering to established laboratory procedures.
Main Responsibilities
Examine stained slides from diverse biological materials to identify cancerous or abnormal cells.
Investigate minute variations in cell size, shape, color, and arrangement that may signal disease.
Prepare specimens for examination using relevant laboratory techniques and protocols.
Classify cells based on predefined categories.
Determine if cells are abnormal and decide whether to refer them to additional laboratory personnel for further evaluation.
Review and classify abnormal cases, generate reports, and communicate findings to healthcare professionals.
Maintain your professional growth through continuous education and involvement in professional organizations.
Ensure adherence to laboratory policies, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
This role demands adaptability due to varying procedure schedules.
Compensation Details
The estimated salary range for this position is $40,000 to $55,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in cytology or a related field, or equivalent experience and certification.
- Certification or eligibility for certification with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
