Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Specimen Control and Receiving Technician to join our team at UW Hospital and Clinics. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for receiving and processing specimens, performing basic instrument maintenance, and providing exceptional customer service to our patients and healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities
  • Receive and process specimens, including checking labels, entering tests into the Laboratory Information System, and loading specimens onto instruments or directing them to the appropriate workstation or storage area.
  • Perform basic instrument maintenance, including temperature monitoring and reagent checks.
  • Provide clerical support, including filing, mailing, and faxing.
  • Interact daily with pathologists, physicians, technologists, clinical staff, nursing unit personnel, and patients to ensure seamless communication and exceptional customer service.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some post-secondary education in a healthcare or related science field preferred.
  • Minimum six months of experience in a lab, healthcare, customer service, or data entry role; one year of healthcare or lab-related work experience preferred.
  • Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) certification or equivalent preferred.
