We are seeking a highly skilled Database Analyst to join our team at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and managing our database resources and services to ensure high levels of data quality and integrity.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in the design and development of new databases, including installation and testing.
- Modify existing databases and database management systems, testing programs or databases and correcting errors.
- Develop, test, and implement SQL program code and application code for use with databases.
- Define, review, and implement database backup and recovery strategies.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement appropriate security, indexes, access controls, constraints, triggers, and other database-related features to safeguard databases against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure.
- Monitor performance of application programs with respect to associated databases and perform required performance tuning actions to ensure database stability and efficiency.
- Work with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
- Develop long-term goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
- Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
- Analyze user requirements for reports, forms, queries, and data extraction.
- Develop and deploy end-user practices and tools for data extraction, queries, and data manipulation in accordance with business processes.
- Create and document models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones through data flowcharting and entity relationship diagrams.
- Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in information technology, computer science, or a closely related field.
- Full-time paid experience in database development and/or administration may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
- A Microsoft MCITP SQL Server certification may be substituted for one year of the required education.
Work is performed in a typical office environment and requires the use of standard office equipment including computers.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and methodologies relating to database design, control, administration, and usage in support of application systems.
- Knowledge of the operating characteristics and limitations of common computer hardware and software utilized by the District.
- Skill in writing SQL scripts for queries.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues related to databases.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
