Job Summary

The First Class Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability and safety of our transit fleet. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing complex issues with heavy-duty vehicles, as well as performing routine maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair complex issues with heavy-duty vehicles, including engine, transmission, and brake systems
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes and tire rotations
  • Inspect and repair air brake systems, suspension and steering systems, and other critical vehicle components
  • Work independently and as part of a team to complete maintenance tasks and projects
  • Train and mentor junior technicians to ensure the development of a skilled and knowledgeable maintenance team
Requirements
  • High school degree or equivalent required
  • 6 years of full-time experience as a maintenance technician diagnosing malfunctions and repairing heavy-duty vehicles
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair principles, procedures, methods, and techniques
  • Knowledge of equipment and specialized tools
  • Ability to train others in maintenance technician job tasks
  • Ability to diagnose and repair heavy-duty vehicles; demonstrated problem-solving skills and complete assignments
  • Ability to work independently and with other mechanics as job task requires
  • Ability to use and operate proficiently a computer database application
  • Ability to complete record-keeping and electronic and/or written reports
Certifications and Licenses
  • Valid Commercial Drivers License Class B operator's license with a passenger endorsement and air brake restriction lifted
  • Valid DOT medical card
  • ASE certification preferred in at least four (4) of the following certifications: H2 Diesel Engines, H3 Drive Train, H4 Brakes, H5 Suspension and Steering, H6 Electrical/Electronic Systems, H7 Heating, Ventilation and A/C
  • Minimum Class 7 Pennsylvania State Motor Vehicle Inspection License
  • AC 609 certification
