Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced educator to work with students who have visual impairments. This full-time role involves a commitment of 37.5 hours per week, with a competitive pay rate starting at $38 per hour, paid on a weekly basis.

Caseload: The successful candidate will manage a caseload of 12 students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel between various campuses as required.
  • Design and execute individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs and learning objectives of each student with visual impairments.
  • Deliver direct instruction in essential subjects, including braille literacy, orientation and mobility, and other specialized areas.
  • Modify instructional materials and teaching methods to cater to diverse visual impairments and learning styles, ensuring all students have equal access to educational resources.
  • Evaluate students' visual capabilities, functional vision, and academic progress, using assessment data to inform instructional strategies and adapt teaching methods as needed.
  • Encourage the development of independent living skills, self-advocacy, and proficiency in assistive technology among students.
  • Provide expert consultation and support to school personnel, parents, and caregivers regarding effective strategies and accommodations for students with visual impairments.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of student progress, assessments, and services rendered.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Special Education, Visual Impairments, or a related discipline.
  • Valid state teaching certification with an endorsement as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired.
  • Prior experience working with visually impaired students, ideally in an educational context.
  • In-depth knowledge of braille, specialized instructional techniques, and assistive technologies for visually impaired learners.
  • Familiarity with IEP development and implementation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively engage with students, parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
  • A compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting students.
  • Ability to adapt and problem-solve to address the unique needs of each student.
