Position Summary
This role is situated within the Bona Lab, part of the Pediatric Outcomes research initiative.

The focus of the Bona Lab's research is to enhance outcomes for children with cancer by examining social determinants of health as critical risk factors in clinical trials and identifying viable intervention targets.

The Parent Support Research Coordinator will spearhead the COMPRENDO initiative aimed at Spanish-speaking parents and guardians of children recently diagnosed with cancer. This includes conducting in-person peer navigation sessions during the clinical treatment consent discussions.

The Parent Support Research Coordinator will equip parents and guardians with essential information and decision-making resources, in line with the research protocol, to facilitate their understanding of clinical trial treatments.

Building robust relationships with parents of pediatric cancer patients is vital to enhance their experience and comprehension of the consent process for cancer treatment.

This role will clarify the distinctions between Standard of Care and Treatment Clinical Trials, guiding parents in formulating pertinent questions for their child's oncology healthcare provider.

As a research-focused position, the Parent Support Research Coordinator will collaborate closely with the healthcare team, which may include physicians, nurses, social workers, and other clinical personnel to support both parents and patients.

Responsibilities include meeting with parents of pediatric cancer patients to deliver designated research interventions and participating in informed consent discussions to facilitate inquiries.

Key Responsibilities:
- Establish connections with parents of children with cancer to provide protocol-specific support.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members to facilitate informed consent discussions with parents.
- Observe, assess, and report potential challenges to the appropriate team members.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with institutional policies.
- Meet with parents/guardians and patients before and after oncology appointments to facilitate discussions and clarify information.
- Participate in discussions regarding informed consent with oncology doctors, parents, and patients.
- Maintain documentation as required by research protocols and institutional policies.
- Attend meetings and conference calls as directed.
- Complete assigned study tasks.

Qualifications:
- Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred.
- Minimum Experience: Lived experience of having a child with cancer is required; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Prior exposure to clinical trials is preferred, along with 1-2 years of experience in a related role (e.g., parent advocate, parent liaison, patient navigation, social work, health coaching, community health work).
- Experience with community health organizations is preferred, as is exposure to navigating issues related to death and dying.

- Must practice discretion and adhere to hospital confidentiality guidelines.
- Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
