Position Overview: The Program in Journalism at Princeton University invites applications for the role of Visiting Ferris Professor of Journalism. Opportunities Available: Both full-time and part-time appointments are offered for one-semester terms. The Journalism program emphasizes a commitment to ethical journalism and aims to foster a diverse and inclusive academic environment.

Responsibilities: Visiting Professors are expected to engage deeply with students and the academic community. Full-time professors will dedicate their time to teaching, attending faculty meetings, and participating in university events. Part-time professors are required to be present on campus for two full days each week during the term.

Course Structure: Seminars will meet weekly for three hours, with a maximum enrollment of 15 students. Students are expected to commit approximately six hours weekly for class preparation, including assignments that will be reviewed in one-on-one writing conferences.

Compensation: Salaries for part-time appointments are set at $37,500, while full-time positions offer $75,000.

Application Requirements: Interested candidates should submit a résumé or CV detailing their professional achievements, a seminar proposal, and a cover letter expressing their interest in teaching. Innovative and interdisciplinary course proposals are highly encouraged.

Course Proposal Guidelines: Proposals should include:

  • A brief overview of the course focus
  • A concise course catalog description (75 words)
  • Specific topics for each week of the course
  • A sample reading list of no more than six titles
  • Possible writing assignments (typically 5-8 short pieces)

Essential Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate a distinguished record in journalism or nonfiction writing, possess effective communication skills, and have at least five years of experience in a news organization or major publications. A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
