Detector Research Staff Engineer

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a talented Staff Engineer to contribute to the development and calibration of state-of-the-art electronics systems used in various experiments and facilities.
Job Summary:The successful candidate will be responsible for defining procedures and coordinating a cross-functional team to optimize firmware, integrated detectors in the LCLS DAQ, and define detector configuration constants and user variables to be implemented in GUIs.
Key Responsibilities:- Organize characterization campaigns in the lab and beamtime at LCLS, defining the set of measurements required for characterization aimed at both understanding behaviors and optimizing operations.
- Devise, develop, and test calibration procedures based on measurement data and user feedback, providing feedback to the cross-functional team for additional optimization or future developments.
- Transfer procedures for operation to the Ops team.
- Report about activities of the team during reviews.
- Bachelor's degree in electronics, physics, or related fields and at least 4 years of experience in x-ray detector development and scientific instrumentation, conducting x-ray science experiments in synchrotrons and/or FEL user facilities, calibration for x-ray detectors, and development of scripts to test and analyze data collected from x-ray detectors and supporting instruments.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and be self-motivated, excellent communications skills, and ability to work well in a research and development team.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment, proven project management and team leadership skills.
- Masters, Doctorate, or equivalent degree in electronics, physics, or related fields.
