The Auburn School - Silver Spring is managed by Specialized Education Services, Inc. (SESI). SESI Schools deliver specialized educational programming for K-12 students who need extra educational and behavioral support to overcome challenges that hinder success in a conventional school environment.
The Auburn School is an independent day school offering a tailored program for intellectually engaged students facing social and communication challenges. We provide a vibrant educational experience for intellectually curious students who encounter difficulties in communication, socialization, pragmatic language, and organization. Auburn's curriculum simultaneously fosters academic skills, social competence, and pragmatic language in an engaging educational atmosphere.

The Special Education Teacher will execute a highly systematic assessment, curriculum, instruction, and behavioral model grounded in best practices. Our educators and staff deliver individualized academic and behavioral interventions with an innovative learning approach, personalized attention, and all the essential support services students require to flourish. Every child deserves to realize their full potential, and we are in search of an exceptional educator who will play a crucial role in fostering student success.
Key Responsibilities
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Instruct knowledge and skills, cultivate confidence and character, and address the needs of all students by utilizing SESI instructional models, strategies, and curriculum
- Design and maintain individualized lessons that provide a balance of standards-based and skills-based instruction aligned with each student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
- Employ the school's behavior support and intervention strategies
- Establish and maintain student records and files as required by SESI, local, state, and/or federal agencies including but not limited to: Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), Behavior Intervention Plans, Incident Reports, High-Risk Evaluation Forms, etc.
- Monitor, document, and track student growth and progress towards academic, social, and emotional objectives
- Supervise students and ensure they are consistently monitored, including transitions to and from appropriate locations within the school
- Light lifting, walking, and/or climbing stairs may be necessary
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education required
- Valid teaching credential relevant to the role
- Special education or in the content (MS) - All subjects
- Commitment to learning and implementing feedback
- Ability to adapt and remain flexible
