Position: Physician Assistant - Interventional Radiology

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct preliminary assessments and determine follow-up actions.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic evaluations, including imaging and laboratory tests.
  • Formulate and execute patient care strategies, providing guidance and support to patients while maintaining comprehensive treatment records.
  • Deliver health education and assist in emergency interventions and intricate procedures.
  • Engage in communication regarding billed services and participate in audits as necessary.
  • Ensure precise and thorough documentation of medical information in patient charts.
  • Monitor and report significant changes in patient conditions.
  • Perform a range of minimally invasive procedures under the supervision of an attending interventional radiologist, including but not limited to:
    • Port placements
    • Paracentesis
    • Thoracentesis
    • Ultrasound-guided biopsies
    • Central venous catheter management
    • PICC line procedures
    • Tunneled catheter procedures
    • Tube removals for various indications
  • Support physicians during additional interventional studies.
  • Act as an educational resource for clinical staff.
  • Conduct pre-study assessments and follow-up care for interventional patients.
  • Manage patient care for vascular and non-vascular conditions.
  • Collaborate with interventional radiologists in procedural settings.
  • Enhance clinical management for interventional radiology patients, ensuring continuity of care.
  • Coordinate imaging studies and laboratory tests necessary for specific interventional procedures.
  • Assist in patient education and counseling for those referred to the Interventional Radiology service.
  • Recognize when to seek physician input within the scope of practice.
  • Facilitate problem-solving and communication across departments.
  • Evaluate potential risks for patients receiving contrast media and take appropriate measures.
  • Co-manage high-risk patients with supervising physicians.
  • Extract relevant clinical data related to requested procedures.
  • Communicate issues that may lead to extended hospital stays to the appropriate healthcare providers.
  • Conduct focused screenings prior to studies and procedures.
  • Provide patients with information regarding preparation for tests and procedures.
  • Gather comprehensive health histories and perform physical examinations.
  • Document consultations, treatment options, and patient dispositions accurately.
  • Dictate procedures performed independently, subject to attending physician approval.
  • Triaging interventional radiology patients and determining the need for emergency consultations.
  • Participate in developing individualized care plans and ongoing patient follow-up.
  • Document progress notes in medical records effectively.
  • Provide medication orders in accordance with collaborative protocols.
  • Keep physicians informed of patient issues to maintain continuity of care.
  • Define discharge plans, including follow-up care and referrals.
  • Assist in scheduling interventional procedures for both inpatient and outpatient referrals.
  • Adhere to safety regulations regarding radiation exposure.
  • Ensure compliance with pre- and post-procedure instructions for patients and staff.
  • Assist with patient transfers to other facilities when necessary.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in interventional radiology procedures and contrast administration.
  • Provide education and counseling to patients before and after procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with medical and support staff to enhance patient care.
  • Participate in research activities and patient care conferences.
  • Engage in patient rounds with responsible physicians as required.
  • Diagnose health issues and manage patient care effectively.
  • Prescribe physical therapy as needed.
  • Perform other management tasks as trained and qualified.
  • Participate in on-call coverage as assigned.
  • Carry out related duties as necessary.
  • Interpret laboratory and imaging findings in relation to patient care.

This list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be expanded to include additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  1. Supervising physician with core privileges in Interventional Radiology.
  2. Current ACLS certification.
  3. Ongoing certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  4. Demonstrated competence based on performance evaluations and a minimum of 50 fluoroscopy procedures in the last two years.
