Position Overview:

The Clinical Research Nurse is responsible for delivering expert nursing care and overseeing the enrollment and monitoring of adult patients participating in clinical research studies, adhering to the established protocols of MercyOne.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a valid state license as a registered nurse as mandated by the State of Iowa.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of nursing experience is required, with a preference for two years in oncology or critical care settings.
  • Possess a valid Iowa Driver's/Chauffeurs License and comply with Mercy's Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
  • Complete Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within three months of employment.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers by the end of the orientation period.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills, organizational abilities, and effective problem-solving capabilities.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of Good Clinical Practices, FDA regulations, NIH guidelines, and HIPAA compliance as they relate to clinical trials.
  • Understand the phases and principles of clinical trials, including the differences in cooperative group research across various sponsors.
  • Have a working knowledge of study budgets and billing procedures.
