Job Summary

The Underwriter I - CL plays a crucial role in reviewing and evaluating property insurance applications for acceptability and pricing decisions. This position requires utilizing various underwriting tools and resources in accordance with corporate underwriting guidelines and standards. The selected candidate must live within a commutable distance to Citizens Jacksonville, FL or Tallahassee, FL office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Model ethical behavior and execute job responsibilities in accordance with Citizens core values, ethics, and information protection policies.
  • Analyze and underwrite Property and Casualty policy applications, renewals, and cancellations to determine risk acceptability, pricing, and coverage within underwriting authority and corporate underwriting guidelines and standards.
  • Interact with agents and other individuals to obtain additional required information needed to underwrite the risk and provide intermediate-level technical advice and support.
  • Decide appropriate action to issue, cancel, non-renew, or modify policy or coverage's consistent with statutory requirements.
  • Participate in special projects and take on additional responsibilities as needed.
Requirements
  • Basic technical knowledge related to Commercial Underwriting.
  • Thorough understanding of insurance coverages, policies, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and other web-based applications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to priority changes.
  • Ability to obtain and organize information into various reports and formats and analyze the information.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma | GED.
  • Associate/Technical Degree OR 2 years relevant experience, OR a combination of both college and experience equivalent to 2 years.
  • Additional education may count towards work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Possession of IIA Certificate in General Insurance or equivalent insurance designation.
  • CPCU designation.
