An Ophthalmic Technician plays a vital role in an ophthalmologist's office, providing exceptional patient care and support. Key responsibilities include handling a wide range of duties, utilizing equipment to perform initial testing, and preparing patients for exams with an ophthalmologist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to patients during every interaction.
  • Display a professional attitude, greet patients promptly, and thank them upon departure.
  • Practice urgency in managing patient and doctor time, adhering to schedules.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures, including HIPAA guidelines.
  • Verify patient information through interviews.
  • Record medical history, current medications, and confirm visit purposes.
  • Enter data into patient electronic medical records.
  • Conduct visual checks on patients, observing pupils, muscles, visual acuity, and extraocular movements.
  • Perform diagnostic tests, including dilation, refraction, pressures, and visual fields.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and ocular medications.
  • Perform general office duties and cleaning as assigned by the manager.

  • Reliable transportation for multiple work locations with minimal notice.
  • Desire to gain industry knowledge and training.
  • Initiative in accomplishing practice goals.
  • Ability to adapt and grow with the company.
  • Consistently create a positive work environment through teamwork and patient focus.
  • Will to work overtime when needed.
  • Courteous and professional interaction with all employees.
Physical Demands:
  • Frequent use of hands for handling, feeling, or manipulating objects.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Education and/or Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, one year of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
