Job Description

A medical assistant is needed to support the healthcare team in a geriatrics and primary care setting. The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of experience in a medical assisting role and a medical assisting diploma or certificate of completion from a medical assisting program. The medical assistant will be responsible for performing pre-visit planning, managing the provider's schedule, obtaining and recording medical history and vital signs, and preparing and administering medications under the direction of healthcare providers. The medical assistant will also be responsible for ensuring accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) and electronic medical record (EMR) systems, including documentation of HEDIS and Stars quality measures. The medical assistant will work in a fast-paced environment and will be required to maintain established quality control standards. The ideal candidate will have experience with HEDIS and ICD/CPT coding, experience with electronic medical records, and experience in a fast-paced/high volume environment. Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities
  • Perform pre-visit planning based on patient visit type
  • Manage the provider's schedule to ensure efficient workflow
  • Obtain and record medical history and vital signs
  • Room patients and assist healthcare providers with medical procedures and treatments
  • Perform specimen collection and point of care testing
  • Prepare and administer medications under direction of healthcare providers
  • Ensure accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) and electronic medical record (EMR) systems, including documentation of HEDIS and Stars quality measures
  • Maintain established quality control standards
Requirements
  • 1-2 years of medical assisting experience in a geriatrics and primary care setting
  • Medical assisting diploma or certificate of completion from a medical assisting program
  • CPR certification
  • Phlebotomy experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active Certified Medical Assistant/CMA or Registered Medical Assistant/RMA certification from one of the following organizations: AAMA, AMT, ARMA, MedCa, NAHP, NAHT, NCCT, NHA or AAH
  • Experience with HEDIS and ICD/CPT coding
  • Experience with electronic medical records
  • Experience in a fast-paced/high volume environment
  • Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus
