The Watsonville Law Center (WLC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free legal assistance to low-income families in the region. WLC collaborates with various community and healthcare partners to tackle legal and social factors affecting health, including housing access, employment rights, immigration issues, and economic fairness.

We are in search of a detail-oriented, proactive, and community-focused Clinic Manager to enhance our client communication and legal service delivery. This role necessitates effective communication with Spanish-speaking clients and requires fluency in Spanish. Previous experience in legal aid, healthcare, or direct community service is highly desirable.

The Clinic Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the direct services offered by WLC, which are overseen by WLC staff attorneys and pro bono attorneys. This position reports to the Legal Director and is responsible for ensuring the provision of high-quality legal services. Key responsibilities include managing clinic operations, coordinating resources for service delivery, tracking outcomes, and ensuring that the WLC team meets program goals and deadlines. The role also involves supervising non-attorney staff and collaborating with the Legal Director and WLC attorneys to ensure adherence to organizational procedures.

This position aligns with the organization's mission and values, emphasizing excellence, collaboration, innovation, respect, community commitment, accountability, and ownership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the WLC Leadership Team to ensure high-quality legal service provision.
  • Oversee all logistical aspects of direct legal service clinics.
  • Manage clinic operations, including supervising non-legal staff and volunteers.
  • Assist in creating substantive, logistical, and administrative processes to facilitate effective service delivery.
  • Participate in training for attorney and non-attorney volunteers to enhance WLC's capacity for direct legal services.
  • Handle administrative tasks related to client service tracking, including generating reports and monitoring workflow.
  • Engage in public outreach and community meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with community stakeholders and service partners, providing education and workshops as needed.
  • Support client communication and assist with legal casework under attorney supervision.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of four years of progressive experience in a legal service environment.
  • Preferred experience in a legal aid program, pro bono program, or law school clinical setting.
  • Experience working in multicultural, low-income, immigrant communities.
  • Knowledge of issues relevant to low-income, immigrant populations, including community outreach and advocacy.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish, both spoken and written, including basic business writing skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, efficiency, and adaptability.
  • Ability to comply with professional responsibility standards in a legal context.
  • Preferred experience as a legal assistant or paralegal.
  • Proficient in computer usage and software applications, including word processing and case management systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse individuals, including clients, law students, attorneys, and community organizations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
  • Self-motivated and capable of independent work.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the service area.
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of equal access to justice.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, type, reach, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary: $64,480 - $78,375.84 per year
