Job Summary

Hannaford Supermarkets is seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused Sales Associate Cashier to join our team. As a Sales Associate Cashier, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, operating a cash register, and maintaining a clean and organized store environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide excellent customer service, responding to customer inquiries and resolving issues in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Operate a cash register, handling customer transactions, and maintaining accurate cash handling procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized store environment, adhering to company standards for cleanliness and safety.
  • Assist customers with finding products, answering questions, and providing product information.
  • Process customer transactions, including cash, checks, and electronic payments.
  • Verify customer IDs and adhere to company policies regarding check acceptance and tobacco/alcoholic beverage sales.
  • Secure the register at all times when leaving it unattended and protect company assets.
  • Use and maintain equipment in good working order, reporting problems or malfunctions immediately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to meet minimum age requirements to perform specific job functions.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the technical requirements of the job.
Preferred Requirements
  • Greet all customers and provide them with prompt, courteous service and assistance.
  • Provide outstanding, friendly customer service.
  • Record (scan) the purchases of a customer into the cash register efficiently and accurately.
  • Collect money in the forms of cash, checks or electronic funds from customers and tender accurate change in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Provide customers and associates with refunds in accordance with standard practice.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Follow Anti-Money Laundering guidelines while processing Western Union, Money Orders, Prepaid Cards and Check Cashing.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand 100% of the time with occasional walking short distances.
  • Use hands to frequently/continuously handle currency (paper and coin) as well as operate a variety of equipment such as cash register, lottery machine, scanner, computer, and calculator.
  • Bend and lift products weighing up to 15 pounds continuously, 25 pounds frequently, and 50 pounds on occasion.
  • Push or pull up to 75 pounds on occasion.
  • Frequent reaching and grasping at waist level; occasionally above shoulder or below waist level.
  • Meet established volume activity standards for the position.
  • Have sufficient visual acuity to check ID cards, checks, invoices and other written documents.
