Position Overview

Job Title: Lead Educator for Early Childhood Programs

Reports To: Education Supervisor

Classification: Full Time / Part Year / Non-Exempt

Status: Hourly

Compensation Range: $19.00-$24.00

Role Summary: This role is dedicated to delivering educational experiences that foster the holistic development of preschool-aged children, focusing on their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth. The educator will have a solid understanding of early childhood development principles, set relevant goals, and work collaboratively with the teaching assistant to create a nurturing learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement activities that cater to the developmental progress of each child, utilizing the prescribed curriculum.
  • Ensure the classroom layout supports the developmental needs of all children.
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic environment, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Employ effective classroom management techniques.
  • Plan and execute transitions within the classroom and facilitate outdoor learning activities.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Family Engagement:

  • Facilitate smooth transitions from Early Head Start or other programs to Head Start and from Head Start to kindergarten or alternative settings.
  • Collaborate with families, special education teams, and management to develop and implement individualized education plans for children.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with families to support each child's success, sharing screening and assessment results as necessary.
  • Consult with families and refer any concerns regarding children and families to the appropriate staff and partners.

Documentation Responsibilities:

  • Gather all necessary permissions and documentation for each child.
  • Keep individual portfolios for each child updated.
  • Utilize agency software to accurately input data and generate reports for tracking and follow-up purposes.
  • Evaluate the current developmental levels of children in relation to learning outcomes and standards.

  • Understanding of challenges faced by individuals and families in low-income situations.

  • Maintain proficiency in the technology systems and software necessary for job performance.

Work Environment: This position primarily operates in a classroom and office setting, with occasional visits to family homes.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands of this role include regular travel in a personal vehicle, frequent kneeling, stooping, bending, and sitting on the floor, as well as occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time, part-year position with a typical workweek from Monday to Friday. Limited evening and weekend hours may be required based on job responsibilities.

Travel Requirements: Local travel is expected during business hours, with some potential for out-of-area and overnight travel.

Educational Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in early childhood education or elementary education with an early childhood endorsement is preferred. Other bachelor's degree concentrations may be considered if accompanied by relevant early childhood experience.
