Psychiatric Technician Specialist

University of Utah Health is seeking a skilled Psychiatric Technician to join our team at the Kem And Carolyn Gardner Mental Health Crisis Care Center. As a key member of our interdisciplinary treatment team, you will provide high-quality patient care and support to individuals with mental health needs.
Responsibilities- Assist with maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, including observing and documenting patient behavior and reporting unsafe conditions.
- Perform or assist with patient admissions, including gathering routine information for nursing assessment and searching patients and belongings for contraband.
- Orient patients and their families to the facility and its policies and procedures.
- Escort patients to off-unit appointments and activities, using therapeutic interventions to ensure patient safety.
- Assist with providing a therapeutic milieu for patients, including encouraging participation in recreational activities and group therapies.
- Support patients through supportive therapy, leading activity and conversation groups.
- Develop patient behavioral expectations and assist with patient treatment planning, teaching, and discharge planning.
- Participate in patient care team conferences and assist with the development, evaluation, and revision of patient care plans.
- 6 months of behavioral health or direct patient care experience, including CNA, MA, HCA, Teacher's aide, or assistant.
- Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
This position involves intensive work that may exert up to 50 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects, such as medical equipment or patients, while providing care in a psychiatric setting. Workers in this position may be exposed to infectious diseases.
