POSITION SUMMARY:
  • Role Overview: The Family Support Specialist is dedicated to working closely with families to help them achieve their aspirations, serving as an advocate within local systems, and facilitating access to essential community resources. This position involves providing intensive in-home support to parents facing cognitive challenges, managing an average caseload of 14 families per month, and may require evening and weekend availability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Embrace the core values of stewardship, compassion, integrity, and equity in all interactions.
  • Deliver services tailored to meet the diverse needs of the population served.
  • Conduct weekly sessions focused on parenting skills and coaching.
  • Develop and implement trauma-informed strategies for parenting.
  • Demonstrate age-appropriate parenting techniques.
  • Collaborate with families to enhance parenting practices.
  • Instruct on self-regulation and redirection methods.
  • Monitor and celebrate parental progress.
  • Assist families in establishing routines that promote well-being.
  • Support meal planning, budgeting, and safety enhancements.
  • Facilitate self-management services to promote family self-sufficiency.
  • Identify and recommend counseling resources for families.
  • Enhance social support networks for families.
  • Provide transportation assistance as necessary.
  • Respond effectively to family crises.
  • Oversee the appropriate use of agency funds by clients.
  • Maintain accurate and objective records of client interactions.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  • Modify parenting education materials to accommodate parents with cognitive challenges.
  • Engage with community partners to foster collaboration.
  • Work in cooperation with the Department of Human Services.
  • Address inquiries from relevant state departments.
  • Participate in regular supervision sessions with the Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Familiarity with community resources in Lane County.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated cultural and linguistic competency.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Commitment to ongoing education in early intervention and education.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
  • Physical effort may vary based on specific situations.
  • Concentration is essential when working with children and families.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work is conducted in a climate-controlled office setting.
