Job Summary

As a Yard Supervisor at Builders Firstsource, Inc., you will be responsible for directing the activities of yard personnel to ensure good customer service and safe and efficient movement of goods and equipment on the premises. This role requires advanced knowledge of yard and product activities, including component or materials weights and methods of loading. You will also be responsible for planning and coordinating work processes to maintain and increase manpower and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage yard staff and direct workers in loading, unloading, and movement of materials on the premises.
  • Ensure that employees receive proper training and certification to operate equipment and machinery.
  • Inspect loading operations for outgoing delivery to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, load limits, and safety regulations.
  • Provide on-the-job training to outside or new yard employees, including product knowledge and safety procedures.
  • Assist customers in loading and load building, and provide delivery status information and inventory availability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and five (5) years of yard operations experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of yard and product activities, including component or materials weights and methods of loading.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate work processes to maintain and increase manpower and efficiency.
  • Communication skills sufficient to speak before teams and work groups to explain work rules and productivity goals.
