Job Title: Intake Counselor

The Salvation Army USA Central Territory is seeking a compassionate and skilled Intake Counselor to join our team. As an Intake Counselor, you will play a vital role in assessing and evaluating clients for admission to our programs, providing individual and group counseling, and working collaboratively with our clinical staff and support staff to ensure the best possible outcomes for our clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate clients for admission to our programs, using established criteria and admission policies.
  • Present cases to the Review Board, making recommendations for admission and ensuring that clients receive the best possible care.
  • Provide individual and group counseling to clients, using evidence-based practices and a trauma-informed approach.
  • Work collaboratively with our clinical staff and support staff to ensure that clients receive comprehensive care and support.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records, ensuring that client information is secure and confidential.
Requirements:
  • Certified in the State of Illinois as a Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC).
  • A minimum of two years of work experience in a related field, preferably in a substance abuse treatment setting.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as psychology, social work, or counseling.
  • A minimum of two years of sobriety, demonstrating a commitment to personal recovery and a strong understanding of the challenges faced by individuals struggling with addiction.

  • A demonstrated ability to manage projects, priorities, and programs in a constantly changing environment.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
  • This position requires light physical work, including the ability to walk up two flights of stairs and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • The work environment is an office setting with a medium noise level.
  • The employee must be able to work with clients who have poor social skills, suffer from mental illness, and have substance abuse problems.
